Letter of Introduction:

Dear Colleagues:

Our February author is almost a BCCLS native via her husband’s parent law firm which is in Lyndhurst.

It is my pleasure to introduce Lisa Gornick as our BCCLS Invite an Author for February 2014.

Lisa Gornick is the author of two novels:  Tinderbox, recently published by Sarah Crichton Books/Farrar, Straus and Giroux; and A Private Sorcery, published by Algonquin.  Her stories and essays have appeared widely, including in Agni, Prairie Schooner, and The Sun, and have received many awards.  She holds a B.A. from Princeton, a Ph. D. in clinical psychology from Yale, and is a graduate of the writing program at N.Y. U. and the psychoanalytic training program at Columbia.  A collection of linked stories, Louisa Meets Bear, is forthcoming, also with Sarah Crichton Books/Farrar, Straus and Giroux.

Tinderbox, her second novel, debuted in September 2013 and is enjoying a busy life here in BCCLS as well as very positive reviews from the media.

About Tinderbox:

"...Turning the pages is a pleasure…There is betrayal, sadness, and tragedy… but apart from all this, it's the realistic portrayal of relationships and personalities that carries the book."

Publishers Weekly

FOUR STARS: "This vivid portrait of a family unravelling is perfect for book clubs."

Sue Corbett, People Magazine

"Lisa Gornick’s second novel, Tinderbox, will certainly be compared to Jonathan Franzen’s acclaimed The Corrections. And it should be, since Gornick creates a world of characters every bit as complex and flawed—and as real—as Franzen’s subjects."

Juli Berwald, Jewish Book Council

Sounds like Tinderbox would make for a perfect book club title and I hope many of you will consider Lisa Gornick for a visit.

Lisa wants you to know she will be happy to visit any BCCLS library at no charge.  Please contact her directly at:
